Kembara Kenali Borneo: King and Queen’s historic expedition

Follow the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong on their historic “Kembara Kenali Borneo” journey through Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei, engaging with the people and experiencing local culture.

The “Kembara Kenali Borneo” expedition, embarked upon by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, is set to reaffirm their deep connection with the people and their compassionate nature.

This historic expedition has garnered an overwhelming response from the people, including those residing in the heartlands of Sabah and Sarawak. It presents a golden opportunity for the residents of these states to interact closely with the royal couple.

Spanning from September 3 to 13, the “Kembara Kenali Borneo” commences in Tawau, Sabah, and concludes in Telok Melano, Sarawak. It promises to be a historic and culturally rich journey, tailored to the wishes of the King. The itinerary includes an array of programmes infused with local customs, culture, and tribal handicrafts, offering the royal couple the chance to engage with the people

Brigadier-General Datuk Mohamed Zahari Yahya, the Air Force aide-de-camp to the King and chief operations officer of “Kembara Kenali Borneo,” has meticulously arranged numerous programmes. These include visits to morning and farmers markets, which hold significant meaning for local communities, as well as exploration of sites of unique natural beauty.

A testament to the King and Queen’s dedication to the people, their willingness to meet the public throughout their journey resulted in a journey from Tawau Airport to their designated hotel taking five hours, a route that typically takes less than 30 minutes.

Covering a distance of 2,154 kilometres along the Pan Borneo Highway, connecting Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei, this expedition represents a remarkable voyage of unity and cultural exploration.

After Tawau, the royal couple’s journey includes stops in Lahad Datu, Sandakan, Telupid, Ranau, Kundasang, Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Sipitang, and Sabah, with subsequent visits to Lawas in Sarawak. They will then venture to Brunei for a three-day sojourn

The expedition resumes from Miri on September 9, featuring activities like drumming and sports, along with savouring local feasts at Pantai Bungai Bekenu. The journey continues through Bintulu, Tatau, Sibu, Sri Aman, Kuching, ultimately culminating at Telok Melano in Sarawak.

The “Kembara Kenali Borneo” expedition epitomises a remarkable journey of unity and cultural exploration. It reflects the King and Queen’s commitment to engaging with the people and experiencing the rich tapestry of life in Sabah, Sarawak, and Brunei.
