Shangri-La Rasa Sayang celebrates 50 years of love

Join Shangri-La Rasa Sayang in commemorating 50 years of cherished memories with the Golden Anniversary Grand Dinner. A nostalgic celebration awaits couples who exchanged vows at this haven of love.

For half a century, the iconic Shangri-La Rasa Sayang in Penang has been a sanctuary for love and cherished moments.

To mark this extraordinary milestone, the resort is extending a heartfelt invitation to all couples who celebrated their weddings at this enchanting venue between 1973 and 1976. These lucky pairs are invited to relive their special day at the Golden Anniversary Grand Dinner.

Hotel communications director Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman announced plans for a grand dinner at the end of the year to honour and appreciate these couples for making Rasa Sayang their preferred wedding destination.

A night of nostalgia at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang

The resort is celebrating its 50th year in business and is offering a complimentary three-day staycation to couples as a token of appreciation. The resort has extended the search from 1973 to 1980, previously announcing an initiative up to 1976 only.

Couples who got married at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang during this time can claim their reward by reaching out to the resort directly. They only need to provide proof of their wedding at Rasa Sayang by presenting images, photographs, or invitation cards from their wedding.

Tunku Suleiman expressed his excitement about this initiative, stating, “The effort is our way of reconnecting with our past guests and expressing our gratitude for choosing Shangri-La Rasa Sayang as their wedding venue during those years.”

The Pelangi Ballroom will host this exclusive event, taking couples on a nostalgic journey down memory lane. For those who tied the knot or celebrated their love at Rasa Sayang during the specified years, this occasion offers a chance to recreate those cherished moments and toast to a lifetime of togetherness.

Entry to this exclusive affair is granted to the first fifty couples who can provide tangible proof of their special day, such as photographs or vintage wedding invitation cards.

Entertainment and rewards

Expect a night filled with delight as live entertainment serenades the couples with melodies that harken back to the old days. Couples will have the opportunity to mingle, sharing tales of joy, love, and laughter that have coloured their lives.

In gratitude for their presence, each couple will receive a unique gift from the hotel. Additionally, they will indulge in a complimentary three-day, two-night stay in a luxurious Rasa Junior Suite, complete with access to the Rasa Wing Lounge, where daily afternoon tea and cocktails await.

Choong Kit Siong, the Director of Commercial Sales, expressed the resort’s joy at welcoming back cherished guests who embarked on their journeys at Rasa Sayang. This gesture is a heartfelt thank-you for their confidence in choosing Rasa Sayang for their special occasions.

“We eagerly anticipate rekindling connections, sharing fond memories and further nourishing the strong bonds we share with these golden couples during the special dinner.”

“Having been a preferred venue for celebrating love and romance for five decades, Rasa Sayang remains dedicated to welcoming all with a genuine sense of hospitality and warmth. This spirit is what makes us a truly remarkable destination not just for weddings, but all special celebrations.”

When it opened its doors in 1973, the resort was acclaimed as the most glamorous of its kind in the country, quickly becoming an icon in Penang. This acclaim led to the proliferation of other hotels along the Batu Ferringhi tourism belt.

As Penang’s tourism sector grew, the oldest resort in Malaysia, now known as Shangri-La Rasa Sayang after being acquired by the Shangri-La Hospitality Group, also ascended as a prominent hotel. It has overcome various challenges, including political changes, economic recessions, and more recently, the impact of climate change, including beach erosion and stronger waves.
