APU hosts UNIIC Demo Day and ASIP Conference

APU hosts two key events, UNIIC Demo Day and ASIP Conference, attracting participants from around the globe for innovation and research.

Asia Pacific University (APU) recently took the stage as it hosted two significant events consecutively at its campus within the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology & Innovation (MRANTI) Park, located in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

These events, namely the University Incubator Consortium (UNIIC) Demo Day 2023 and the Asian Society for Innovation and Policy (ASIP) Conference 2023, were orchestrated by APU’s Enterprise@APU and the School of Business (SoB) teams.

Generous sponsorship for these events came from the AIQ Group, International Institute of Innovation and Sustainability, ant3, and ASIP.

UNIIC Demo Day

UNIIC Demo Day at APU brought together student teams from 16 universities spanning nine countries, including Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, South Africa, South Korea, India, and Malaysia.

The event offered a platform for knowledge exchange and networking. Dr. Ko Young Joo, President of ASIP, shared valuable insights into the skills required for future leaders in startup innovation during Day 1.

Day 2 saw student teams presenting their ideas and prototypes to a distinguished panel of judges, further refining their pitches and products. Lucas Tee, Co-founder of AIQ Group, provided inspiration and encouragement to the students, urging them to pursue their aspirations with determination.

ASIP Conference

The ASIP Conference 2023, themed “Entrepreneurship and Digital Society,” marked the 13th annual gathering of academics, professionals, and students from over 15 countries.

Associate Professor Dr. Jason Turner, APU’s Senior Head of the School of Business, chaired the event. The presence of ASIP’s President, Dr. Ko Young Joo, and Professor Dr. Ho Chin Kuan, Vice Chancellor of APU, added prestige to the conference.

The conference served as a vital platform for research dissemination, with participants contributing to in-house journals and academic publications. Over 120 presentations were made during the two-day event, attracting more than 200 participants, including students, academics, and industry professionals.

Emerald Publishing, represented by Rozita Nordin, Regional Marketing Manager, East Asia, and Mr. William Loh Wui Lun, Business Manager, commended the well-organized and executed conference. Rozita Nordin highlighted the high-quality papers presented and the potential for publication. The conference aimed to enhance the visibility of entrepreneurship-related research and facilitate networking among students, staff, and practitioners from participating universities and organisations.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jason Turner, co-author of a paper, received an award of excellence from Emerald Publishing, further underscoring the event’s success. He expressed that the conference was a global gathering fostering debate, international collaboration, and impactful research to reshape society and the world of work. APU’s role as the host of these events further solidified its commitment to innovation and research on a global scale.
