Renowned composer Deva set to enthrall Penang in concert

South India’s famed music composer, Deva, known as ‘Thenisai Thendral Deva,’ will be performing live at the Setia SPICE Arena in Penang on October 21.

At 72 years of age, with a musical career spanning over three decades and over 400 film compositions to his name, Deva is not only bringing his musical prowess but is also making his maiden visit to the state.

In an exclusive interview with Buletin Mutiara, Deva expressed his long-standing desire to explore Penang and its natural beauty.

Deva “Gaana” music magic in Penang

Penang holds a special place in Deva’s heart as he’s always yearned to experience its scenic beauty. During the interview, he couldn’t hide his delight at finally having the chance to explore the state’s picturesque landscapes.

“Penang has beautiful beaches and is a haven for nature lovers. I would like to thank City Production for making this happen,” Deva said during the interview, his anticipation evident.

Deva is loved for his ‘Gaana’ songs. Gaana is a traditional Chennai folk music genre that has gained worldwide recognition, and Deva played an important role in its global popularity.

His brothers, Sabesh-Murali, who form a musical duo, have lent their voices to many Gaana songs composed by Deva.

A star-studded musical extravaganza

Deva’s illustrious career includes composing music for legendary actors like Superstar Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith Kumar, Vijay, and many others.

His compositions for iconic movies such as Baasha, Avvai Shanmugi, Kushi, Red, Arunachalam, and Annamalai continue to be timeless classics.

Renowned singers and musicians, Mano, Anuradha Sriram, Srikanth Deva (Deva’s son), and the talented duo Sabesh-Murali (Deva’s brothers) will join Deva for the concert.

The concert will also feature former Super Singer participants, namely Priyanka Deshpande, Sathya Narayanan, Dhivagaran Santhosh, and Pooja, promising an array of musical talent on display.

Two integral figures in Deva’s musical journey, singers Hariharan and Unni Krishnan, will be unable to attend the concert due to prior commitments.
