In a milestone moment for Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the inaugural commercial flight of its new Boeing 737-8 aircraft is set to depart Kuala Lumpur at 3.40pm today, bound for Kota Kinabalu as Malaysia Airlines flight MH2640.

MAG, the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, celebrated the induction of this aircraft with a launch ceremony earlier in the day.

Chairman Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin highlighted the Boeing 737-8‘s pivotal role in enhancing customer experience, improving operational efficiency, and supporting future network growth.

Emphasizing its significance beyond a fleet update, he noted the aircraft as a bridge between the airline’s history and a new era, aligning with Long-Term Business Plan 2.0 goals.

MAG has an order book for 25 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, to be progressively delivered by 2026 through an operating lease with Air Lease Corporation. The airline plans to initially deploy the aircraft for domestic Malaysia services, expanding to Asean and Asia as more units enter service.

The Boeing 737-8 boasts state-of-the-art wireless in-flight entertainment, offering passengers an elevated experience with diverse content options.

In a strategic move towards enhanced connectivity, Malaysia Airlines, under MAG, will introduce high-quality internet connectivity, a first for the narrowbody fleet, ensuring passengers stay connected throughout their journey.
