GSC Movies is set to partner with iQIYI, a leading online entertainment service in China, to make premium Chinese films available to global viewers.
This collaboration, which also includes Singapore’s Clover Films, aims to expand iQIYI’s selection of networks and leverage the extensive film distribution of GSC Movies and Clover Films.
iQIYI’s global expansion
Yang Xianghua, President of Movie & Overseas Business Group of iQIYI, highlighted the growing demand for Chinese-language content in overseas markets since 2017.
In 2019, iQIYI embarked on a global expansion, enabling simultaneous worldwide releases of iQIYI-produced content.
This expansion has significantly enhanced timeliness and improved the overall user experience.
The partnership with GSC Movies and Clover Films for theatrical distribution will bring Chinese-language films to audiences in Singapore and Malaysia through effective resource integration.
GSC Movies’ upcoming film releases
The film Trending Topic, presented by iQIYI, will be released in Singapore and Malaysia after its Chinese debut on December 1.
The Invisible Guest, also presented by iQIYI, will follow the same pattern, premiering in China on December 8.
Similarly, The Invisible Guest, directed by Chen Zhuo and starring actors Greg Hsu will also be in theatres in Singapore and Malaysia after it debuts in Chinese cinemas on December 8.
Esther Hau, Head of Distribution & Co-Production from GSC Movies, expressed excitement about the collaboration with iQIYI in bringing high-quality content onto the silver screens for moviegoers in Malaysia.
GSC Movies, the largest independent film distributor in Malaysia, offers a diverse range of content including Chinese films, Japanese anime, other Asian films, and independent English-language films.
The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Golden Screen Cinemas, Malaysia’s largest cinema chain, renowned for delivering exceptional movie-going experiences.
