Gleneagles Hospital Johor (GHJ), in partnership with the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Johor Branch and Malaysia Neurointerventional Society (MyNIS), achieved a milestone by successfully organising the “2023 Neuroconference: MyNIS Annual Scientific Meeting” on December 2nd and 3rd.
Attended by over 70 professionals from diverse medical fields, this two-day event explored the dynamic landscape of stroke management and related areas.
Dr. Kamal Amzan, CEO of Gleneagles Hospital Johor, inaugurated the event, underscoring its significance in addressing healthcare challenges posed by an ageing population and rising non-communicable diseases.
Addressing Neurological challenges
The conference drew over 70 participants, including specialists in interventional radiology, radiology, emergency medicine, neurosurgery, primary care, and neuroscience.
Dr. Kamal highlighted the conference’s importance in tackling healthcare challenges linked to an ageing population and increasing non-communicable diseases.
He stressed the proactive role of such conferences in educating and training new professionals in interventional neurology to reduce morbidities and mortalities associated with neurological disorders.
According to Dr. Kamal, it’s not just about healthcare; it’s about preserving workforce productivity and societal well-being.
Insights, progress, and collaboration at Neuroconference
Crucial aspects covered during the conference included patient care, extended treatment windows, early identification and triage, regional planning, intracranial haemorrhage management, and the latest research and guidelines for thrombectomy.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Md Yuzairif Md Yusof, followed by an opening speech by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khairul Azmi Abd Kadir, President of MyNIS.

The event showcased two specialised tracks: a neurointervention track delving into acute stroke, aneurysm, spinal Dural AV fistula and AVM, as well as a masterclass in stroke.
The second day featured a hands-on workshop at Gleneagles Hospital Johor, providing participants with immersive experiences in procedures like Thrombectomy and flow diversion.
