Phase 3 of the Batu Kawa Riverbank Park project is on track for completion before the upcoming Lunar New Year, reported The Borneo Post.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said that Phase 3 introduces a range of recreational facilities, further enhancing the park’s appeal.
Batu Kawa Park grows with each phase
Dr Sim, also the Batu Kawa assemblyman, provided insights into the diverse offerings of the third phase, stating, “The different phases of Batu Kawa Riverbank Park project are due to funding from different sources…and recreational facilities for different age groups.”
The new additions include facilities for skateboarding, a pickleball court, a petanque court, table tennis, and a 3×3 basketball court.
Previous completed phases encompass the ‘Sky Window’ building and a walkway connecting to Batu Kawa old town, funded by the state government.
Additionally, riverbank protection projects along Kampung Rantau Panjang and Kampung Sinar Budi Lama were funded by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak.
Park gears up for festive celebrations
The Batu Kawa Riverbank Park, a five-phase development, is situated approximately twenty minutes from the main city centre of Kuching.
With a total cost of RM8.8 million, the Padawan Municipal Council oversees its implementation. The park covers 15.6 acres and features a 2km walkway from the Chinese temple at the Batu Kawa Old Bazaar to Kampung Rantau Panjang, with the latter still undergoing construction.
The ongoing project, initiated in 2018, has already seen the opening of phases one and two on November 8, 2021. Phase 3 is set to interconnect all four phases, introducing a unique glass bridge over Sungai Moyan.
While the fourth phase, funded by the federal government, is underway, the fifth phase, focusing on works at Kampung Rantau Panjang, will be funded by the Sarawak government and implemented by the state Drainage and Irrigation Department.
The anticipated completion of Phase 3 before the Lunar New Year marks a significant step towards the fruition of the comprehensive Batu Kawa Riverbank Park project, offering diverse recreational opportunities for the community.
