KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 (Bernama) — About 50 residents of Kota Damansara today gathered at the construction site of Carrefour Hypermarket to protest against the resumption of the development of the project, which they claimed would affect their daily life.
At about 2pm, residents from Gugusan Dedap, D’Villa Avenue, D’Villa Botany, D’Villa Equestrian, Bayu Damansara grouped in front of the hypermarket site with banners to show their protests.
The peaceful protest was followed by a press conference at the Gugusan Dedap flats, where state assemblyman for Kota Damansara Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim said he was disappointed as the project had been allowed to continue despite objections.
Members of the Friends of Kota Damasara as well as the president of the Parent-Teacher’s Association of Sekolah Kebangsaan Section 11 Kota Damansara, Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, were also present at the press conference to show their suppport.
“I did not receive any formal letter from the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council regarding the resumption of the project and I will thus continue to support those residents and fulfil my responsibilities towards them as this project would have adverse impact on their quality of life,” Dr Mohd Nasir said.
The president of the Kota Damansara Residents’ Association, Dali Sardar said despite their intense efforts to show the drawbacks of this unlawful and illegal project, nothing had been done in favour of the residents.
He said the hypermarket development was near to a school and surrounded by residential areas, and it was never a part of the town planning, and if there were any changes to be made in the town planning, it should be approved by the residents in the area.
“We are not against development, but the government should consider relocation of the project while taking into account possible security hazards, traffic congestion, the school and residents’ welfare,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Parent-Teacher’s Association of Sekolah Kebangsaan Section 11 also objected to the resumption of the project as the construction of the hypermarket would result in pollution, noise and affect the students in their study, said Che Khalib.
A resident of D’Villa Avenue Mrs Hoh Lim underscored the point that by allowing the project to continue, the Pakatan Rakyat government had broken its promises to the rakyat during the March 2008 election campaign which was to right the wrongdoings of the previous government.
