Sunway Medical Centre (SMC), Malaysia’s largest private quaternary hospital, recently celebrated the inauguration of its state-of-the-art cancer centre.
The event marked a significant step forward in cancer care and showcased the commitment of Sunway Cancer Centre to excellence and innovation.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Seow Vei Ken, CEO of SMC, and Dr. Heng Siew Ping, General Manager of Sunway Cancer Centre.
Sunway Cancer Centre prioritises patients
Sunway Cancer Centre aims to establish itself as a leading one-stop cancer facility, integrating supportive and palliative care services into patient-centred cancer care.
Spanning over 4,000 sqm, it boasts one of the largest radiotherapy departments, a chemotherapy daycare centre, a bone marrow transplant centre, and a nuclear medicine department.
The multidisciplinary team includes clinical oncologists, haematologists, bone marrow transplant physicians, and nuclear medicine physicians, offering expertise in treating both solid and liquid cancers.

Cutting-edge equipment, including Varian TrueBeam™ and Leksell Gamma Knife® Icon™, is employed for precise cancer treatment. The centre also utilises diagnostic technologies like low-dose CT, Digital PET/CT scanners, comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP), and Circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA).

To accommodate increased patient capacity, Sunway Cancer Centre is equipped with advanced technology, including Varian linear accelerators, Leksell Gamma Knife® ICON™, and Tomotherapy.
The Nuclear Medicine Centre houses PET/CT and SPECT-CT scanners to support diagnosis and monitor cancer treatments using radiopharmaceuticals.
Dr. Heng Siew Ping, General Manager of Sunway Cancer Centre, shared insights into breakthroughs in treating challenging cancers, emphasising the commitment to continuous research, innovation, and personalised care.
The centre goes beyond conventional cancer care by offering emotional and psychological support through initiatives like the Cancer Buddy Programme, collaborations with allied healthcare teams, tumour board meetings, clinical trials, and supportive & palliative care services.
