Tourism Malaysia is bringing Malaysian taste of culture, heritage, and culinary delights to the city of Vientiane, Laos with a three-day Food and Culture Promotion event at Laotel Hotel from 26 to 28 January 2024.
This initiative aims to provide the people of Vientiane with a unique opportunity to experience Malaysia’s diverse cultural offerings, including traditional dances, performances, and a showcase of authentic Malaysian handicrafts and cuisine.
Istana Budaya brings dances of diversity
The Food and Culture Promotion will feature special traditional dances and performances representing Malaysia’s various ethnic groups.
These performances are carefully choreographed by Istana Budaya, translated as the Palace of Culture.
Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Malaysia’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, led the launch ceremony alongside esteemed guests.
Tiong was joined by Dato’ Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture Malaysia; Dato’ Dr. Ammar Bin Abd. Ghapar, Director General of Tourism Malaysia; and Ms. Vivianne Chu, General Manager of IBIS Hotel KLCC.
In addition to the cultural performances, Laotel Hotel patrons will have the opportunity to explore booths showcasing Malaysian handicrafts at KARYANEKA and sample culinary delights from ADABI, a leading Malaysian food manufacturing company.
Malaysian culinary story unfolds at Laotel
Tiong highlighted Malaysia’s diverse cuisine, a fusion of Malay, Chinese, and Indian influences.
He mentioned, “Malaysia offers a great, wide range of incredible, splendid cuisine from three major ethnicities, symbolizing the food culture.”
The showcased menu includes iconic dishes such as Nasi Lemak, Penang Char Kway Teow, Laksa, Pasembur, Rendang Tok, Sambal Udang Petai Peranakan, Soto, Hivana, Kek Lapis Sarawak, Roti Canai, Satay Kajang, and the beloved Nasi Lemak and Teh Tarik.
He also emphasised the significance of Malaysian cuisine, stating, “We have various selections of Halal and Heritage Food, such as Nasi Lemak, Penang Char Kway Teow and Laksa, as well food served during festive seasons like Rendang, Lemang and Ketupat.”
The Food and Culture Promotion is part of Tourism Malaysia’s broader efforts to showcase Malaysia’s cultural richness and strengthen international cultural ties.
The event aligns with the plans of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) to organise various cultural events throughout the year, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a vibrant cultural destination.
