Tripadvisor, the leading global travel guidance platform, has unveiled its prestigious Travelers’ Choice® Award for 2024, celebrating the Best of the Best Destinations.

Kuala Lumpur, the vibrant Malaysian capital, has achieved an impressive 10th position in this esteemed ranking.

The awards recognise destinations that have experienced remarkable year-over-year growth in traveller interest, showcasing the evolving preferences of global tourists.

As part of its Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Destination Awards, Tripadvisor has identified the top trending destinations for 2024.

Remarkably, major cities in Asia have claimed a dominant position, occupying five out of the top five spots and eight out of the top 10 globally trending destinations.

Kuala Lumpur, securing the 10th spot, reflects the increasing interest in Asian cities, signalling a shift away from traditional European favourites like London and Paris.

Sarah Firshein, Head of Editorial at Tripadvisor, highlighted the resurgence of interest in long-haul trips to Asia, demonstrating travellers’ eagerness to explore the region post-pandemic.

Kuala Lumpur captivates with modern charms

Kuala Lumpur’s recognition as the tenth most trending destination globally is a testament to its allure and cultural richness.

The city, home to iconic landmarks such as the Petronas Twin Towers and the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, captivates travellers with a blend of modern architecture and historical charm.

The ranking is determined by the quality and quantity of reviews from global travellers covering accommodations, restaurants, and activities posted on Tripadvisor between October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023.

The Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Destination Awards also acknowledged other remarkable destinations such as Tokyo (1st), Seoul (2nd), Halong Bay (3rd), Palawan Islands (4th), Sapa (5th), Pattaya (7th), and Phnom Penh (9th).

Notably, Kuala Lumpur stands alongside these global hotspots, making it a sought-after destination for international travellers.

As global travel momentum continues into 2024, Tripadvisor’s data reveals a positive outlook. Last year’s resurgence in travel is expected to sustain, with almost half of respondents planning three or more trips.

International travel remains a key focus, with 46% planning at least one international trip. Notably, 93% of Americans express their intention to maintain or increase travel expenditure this year.

Against this backdrop, Kuala Lumpur’s recognition in the Travelers’ Choice Awards cements its status as a rising star on the global travel map, beckoning tourists with its unique blend of modernity and cultural heritage.
