Giant ‘Bakul Sia’ strengthens Malaysia-China ties
In a departure from the usual Friday to Sunday operations, a special Jonker Walk night market is scheduled for Thursday, February 22, offering visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the festivities.
Adding to the grandeur, a colossal ‘Bakul Sia,’ measuring 4.57 metres in height and 2.44 metres in width, will be prominently placed next to the main stage of Jonker Walk.
Datuk Gan Tian Loo shared the special significance of the giant traditional basket, stating, “The giant ‘Bakul Sia’ was specially brought from Yongchun, China, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.”
This symbolic addition aims to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries, enhancing the cultural exchange and celebrating this historic milestone.
As Jonker Walk undergoes a magnificent transformation with the infusion of large lanterns, decorative lights, and the symbolic giant ‘Bakul Sia,’ the stage is set for an unforgettable Chinese New Year celebration.
