Challenging the limits: The 1200-kilometer expedition

Having made history in 2020 by orchestrating the longest cycling event ever held in Malaysia, IIUM is poised to surpass its own records this year. The event is set to commence and conclude at the scenic IIUM Gombak campus, featuring a meticulously planned route with 11 strategically positioned checkpoints offering participants a unique and demanding journey through the diverse terrains of Malaysia. Noteworthy segments include a challenging climb in the enchanting Cameron Highlands, a pit stop at IIUM Kuantan, an adrenaline-pumping off-road stretch in Terapai, and a triumphant ascent to Genting Sempah before the return to IIUM Gombak.

Beyond a cycling challenge

Among the participants is Lee Yee Seng, President of MLDA, who underscored the importance of collective action in addressing the challenges faced by individuals with rare diseases. He emphasized the significance of the ride, stating that the MY1200 isn’t just a cycling challenge; it’s a chance to make a difference by raising awareness and funds for vital research and treatment of Lysosomal Storage Diseases (LSD).

The event also includes two additional categories catering to cyclists of varying skill levels, including the Enduride (190km) and Funride (30km) events scheduled for 10 March 2024. This inclusive approach ensures that participants from all backgrounds can contribute to the cause, underscoring the notion that IIUM MY1200 is not merely a race but a journey towards meaningful impact.
