“The Pillar of Strength.” The film earned the Best Cultural Diversity Film Award at the 2023 International Human-Environment Care Film Festival (HECFF) in Toronto, Canada.

“The Pillar of Strength” is a seven-minute, thirty-second animated film that explores themes of family, the relationship between humans and nature, human identity, and the cultural tapestry of life in the Borneo archipelago.

Aie Ibrahim, whose real name is Mohamed Khairi Ibrahim, poured his creative energy into the project, acting as writer, director, animator, character designer, and visualizer.

The film, completed in 2021, was supported by grants from the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and the Malaysian Ministry of Finance.

Aie Ibrahim embarked on a three-week journey to Borneo Island, visiting museums and immersing himself in the culture of indigenous communities in Lubok Antu and Kota Samarahan.

His aim, as he explains, was “to amplify the voices of indigenous people in Borneo and raise their visibility globally with the motto ‘to empower culture through animation.’”

This dedication has been rewarded with over 25 awards for Aie Ibrahim’s work throughout the years, including recognition from prestigious festivals in Spain, France, and Korea.
