Langkawi International Airport receives prestigious ACI Award

Langkawi International Airport wins prestigious ACI award for third year, highlighting commitment to exceptional passenger service.

Langkawi International Airport (LGK) has once again been recognized as the Best Airport in the Asia-Pacific region for serving two to five million passengers, as announced by the Airports Council International (ACI) World. This remarkable achievement marks the third consecutive year that LGK has clinched the coveted Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award, reaffirming its position as a leading airport renowned for delivering exceptional service and satisfaction to travelers.

The ASQ program, established by ACI, is globally recognized as the standard for assessing airport customer experience. Through meticulous on-site surveys covering over 30 performance indicators, the program gathers insights from passengers worldwide, with LGK standing out among more than 400 participating airports. This recognition underscores LGK’s unwavering commitment to providing a superior passenger experience.

Mohamed Rastam Shahrom, the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Airports, expressed pride in LGK’s achievement, stating, “In earning this prestigious recognition, the LGK airport community demonstrates an unwavering commitment to consistently delivering exceptional service standards.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining high service standards as Langkawi Island continues to attract global tourists, with the recent addition of new airline routes contributing to a resurgence in travel.

ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira commended LGK’s success, highlighting the program’s global significance in assessing airport customer experience. “Excellence in customer service isn’t just a goal; it’s the key to ensuring airports remain not just gateways, but memorable destinations in themselves,” he remarked.

Promising rebound for travel and tourism

In a demonstration of the region’s growing appeal to travelers, Malaysia Airports Group reported a record 7.8 million passenger movements across its airports in February 2024, marking the highest monthly figure since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This surge in passenger volume, attributed to extended school and festive holidays, celebrations of China’s Spring Festival, and the introduction of new airlines and increased flight frequencies, reflects a promising rebound for travel and tourism in the region.

Among the notable achievements contributing to Malaysia Airports Group’s performance is the robust growth of Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW) in Turkey. SAW recorded 3.2 million passengers, a remarkable 27.4% increase over pre-pandemic levels, with Batik Air expanding its service offerings to bolster connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and SAW. This expansion not only enhances air links between Malaysia and Turkey but also establishes SAW’s longest route and first connectivity to the Far East, further solidifying Malaysia’s position as a key player in global aviation connectivity.

The recognition of LGK and the impressive performance of Malaysia Airports Group underscore Malaysia’s commitment to delivering excellence in airport services and facilitating seamless travel experiences for passengers across the region and beyond.
