“Gift for Gaza” initiative symbolizes hope

Malaysia launches ‘Gift for Gaza’ humanitarian aid initiative, reaffirming commitment to Palestinian support amid ongoing crisis.

Malaysia marked the commencement of its latest humanitarian aid endeavor, the “Gift for Gaza” program, aimed at providing essential assistance to the beleaguered residents of Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip, amidst ongoing challenges and restrictions imposed by Israeli authorities.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin, who spearheaded the flagging-off ceremony yesterday, emphasized Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, citing the nation’s active role and steadfast stance on the Palestinian issue. Through initiatives like Ops Ihsan and various local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Malaysia has dispatched over 1,500 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The ceremony, held at Port Klang, symbolized the commencement of the shipment’s journey to Port Said, Egypt, where it is expected to arrive in approximately 40 days. This collaborative effort involves MyFund Action, Malaysian Humanitarian Aid and Relief (MAHAR), Friends of Palestine, and Aramex.

“Malaysia remains committed to delivering humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in Gaza. The Malaysian government continues to play an active role and demonstrates a firm stance on the Palestinian issue,” stated Mohamad Alamin in a Facebook post.

Urgency Amidst Crisis

The dire situation in Gaza underscores the urgency of such humanitarian endeavors. According to reports from the United Nations, nearly 32,800 Palestinians have lost their lives, with 75,300 others sustaining injuries. Moreover, widespread destruction and shortages of essential supplies persist due to imposed restrictions by Israel, leaving Gaza’s residents grappling with hunger and homelessness.

The United Nations further warns that 85 percent of Gaza’s population faces the risk of homelessness, compounded by severe shortages of food, clean water, and essential medicines. Additionally, the region’s infrastructure has been significantly damaged or destroyed, with 60 percent affected by the conflict.

The “Gift for Gaza” initiative reflects Malaysia’s solidarity with the Palestinian people and its commitment to alleviating their suffering amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis. As the shipment embarks on its journey, it symbolizes hope for a brighter future and underscores the importance of international solidarity in addressing humanitarian crises worldwide.
