AirAsia X (AAX) marked a significant milestone today with the launch of its inaugural flight to Xi’an, China.

The flight, D7 346, departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminal 2) at 7:05 pm on April 4, 2024, carrying a full passenger load and arriving at Xi’an Xianyang International Airport at 12:30 am (local time) on April 5, 2024.

This new route establishes AAX as the sole airline offering direct service between Kuala Lumpur and Xi’an. Xi’an becomes AAX’s fifth destination in China, joining Beijing (Daxing), Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Chengdu (Tianfu).

This expansion underscores AAX’s commitment to solidifying its position as the largest foreign low-cost airline carrier in China.

“We are thrilled to resume services to this iconic city,” said Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X. “AAX is now the only airline providing direct connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and Xi’an.

Promotional fares to celebrate new route

To celebrate this milestone, AAX is offering special promotional fares for travel to Xi’an. From April 15 to 21, 2024, passengers can book one-way flights from Kuala Lumpur to Xi’an with all-in fares starting from RM488.

These promotional fares are valid for immediate travel until March 31, 2025, and can be booked on the airasia.com website and the AirAsia Mobile app (formerly known as the airasia Superapp).

AAX’s launch of direct flights to Xi’an opens up new travel possibilities for Malaysians and strengthens economic and cultural ties between Malaysia and China. The special promotional fares provide an added incentive for travellers to explore this historic city.

Benyamin further expressed AAX’s eagerness to expand its footprint in China, supporting the government’s goal of attracting five to seven million tourists from China this year and contributing to the success of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
