IRONMAN 70.3: Desaru Coast to host “Torture Camp”

With the IRONMAN 70.3 Desaru Coast approaching in May, Desaru Coast is gearing up to host an intensive triathlon clinic designed to elevate the skills and endurance of aspiring athletes.

The three-day program, aptly named “Desaru Torture Camp,” is a collaboration between Malaysia’s RC Coaching and Singapore’s Elevate Performance, two premier triathlon coaching companies.

Triathletes gear up for IRONMAN 70.3

Scheduled for April 19-21, 2024, the Desaru Torture Camp offers a comprehensive training regimen to prepare participants for the rigours of the IRONMAN 70.3 race.

Activities include a simulated triathlon, challenging long runs on the actual 70.3 Desaru Coast course, an invigorating open-water swim, and a demanding 90km bike ride replicating the core race circuit.

The program goes beyond pure physical training, incorporating essential recovery techniques like foam rolling and stretching.

A celebratory group dinner caps off the program, fostering camaraderie and mutual encouragement among participants.

Athletes will benefit from the valuable insights and guidance of experienced coaches from both RC Coaching and Elevate Performance.

These two coaching outfits have a proven track record of success, having trained world-class triathletes who have secured podium finishes at past IRONMAN Desaru Coast events.

Camp provides comprehensive training and camaraderie

“The Desaru Torture Camp, under the guidance of RC Coaching, played a significant role in my preparation,” shared Yap Qi Yi, winner of the 2023 IRONMAN Desaru Coast SPRINT distance.

Participation fees start at RM1,110 for the training program only.

Stay packages include a 3-day, 2-night stay at the Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast with daily meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) for RM2,840 per athlete (single occupancy) or RM4,440 for two participants.

All participants will receive a complimentary Desaru Coast IRONMAN 70.3 Torture Camp T-shirt, swimming cap, and lifeline ID.

The IRONMAN 70.3 Desaru Coast, the marquee event at the Desaru Coast Multi Sports Festival happening from May 17-19, 2024, is recognised as one of Asia’s most prestigious triathlon events.

The race features a challenging yet scenic course, encompassing a 1.9km swim in the beachfront waters near The Westin Desaru Coast Resort, followed by a 90km bike ride through lush greenery, and concluding with a 21km run around The Els Club Desaru Course, incorporating multiple hills to test participant’s endurance.
