In a bid to elevate Malaysia’s standing in the global chess arena, Dynamics Group has unveiled its ambitious project, “Road to GM,” aimed at nurturing the country’s first-ever chess Grandmaster (GM). The initiative, which commenced with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during Dynamics Group’s Buka Puasa reception last month, is now gaining momentum as it strives to secure at least RM1 million in funding from potential sponsors and donors.
The Buka Puasa reception served as the inaugural platform to garner support and disseminate information about the project. With the conclusion of Ramadan, the initiative has transitioned into high gear, with several productive meetings and discussions already underway with interested sponsors eager to contribute to the cause.
While previous attempts to cultivate a Malaysian GM have been made, notably during the era of the late Dato Tan Chin Nam, the “Road to GM” project distinguishes itself through its comprehensive structure and meticulous planning. The initiative boasts a carefully outlined budget and program, tailored to identify and nurture promising young talent within the ages of 10 to 14.
Initiative targets talented players aged 10-14 for global success
Central to the project’s success is the identification and grooming of a select group of young players, poised to make waves on the international stage. The brainchild behind this endeavor is a dedicated chess enthusiast who has closely monitored Malaysia’s chess development over the years. A pivotal meeting with the Malaysian Chess Federation (MCF) earlier this year catalyzed the formation of the initiative, with the singular goal of attaining the elusive title of Malaysian chess Grandmaster.
As the “Road to GM” initiative continues to gain traction, stakeholders and enthusiasts are urged to stay tuned for further updates and developments. With unwavering commitment and support, Malaysia inches closer to realizing its dream of producing a chess Grandmaster, poised to leave an indelible mark on the global chess landscape.
