Motorists in Perak can rejoice as construction on the West Ipoh Span Expressway (WISE) is set to begin next month.
This vital infrastructure project promises to improve traffic flow and connectivity within the state.
A long-awaited solution for traffic woes
The announcement by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad marks the culmination of efforts to expedite WISE’s construction.
The project has been touted as a solution to the chronic congestion plaguing the North-South Expressway (PLUS), particularly around the Menora Tunnel.
“The CA [Concession Agreement] will be signed once the agreement is finalised, allowing the concession company to begin construction of the expressway,” Saarani explained.
Previously, media reports highlighted the urgency to construct WISE as a means to alleviate the pressure on PLUS, especially during accidents or breakdowns within the Menora Tunnel.
Currently, motorists facing such situations have limited options, often resorting to congested federal roads.
A smoother journey with West Ipoh Span Expressway
The 60-kilometer WISE will offer a welcome alternative route.
Envisioned as a three-lane highway in both directions, it will begin in Gopeng and traverse key towns like Batu Gajah, Siputeh, Manong, Tronoh, Beko, and Seri Iskandar before culminating in Kuala Kangsar.
WISE’s significance extends beyond immediate traffic relief. It serves as a vital link, complementing the recently opened West Coast Expressway (WCE).
This integrated network of expressways is expected to act as a catalyst for economic growth in Perak by facilitating the movement of goods and people.
The green light for WISE construction signifies a positive step towards a more efficient and well-connected Perak.
This project has the potential to not only ease commuter frustrations but also unlock the state’s economic potential.
