Perak’s stunning limestone formations have long been a draw for tourists, offering adventure and natural beauty.
However, a recent accident has prompted authorities to prioritise safety before reopening similar attractions.
Safety first for reopening limestone caves
Loh Sze Yee, Chairman of the State Tourism Committee, announced stricter safety protocols at a recent press conference.
Tourist centre operators near limestone zones must comply with these recommendations by a dedicated committee before reopening their doors.
“The safety of visitors is paramount,” Loh emphasised. “Operators will need to demonstrate their adherence to these new protocols before a reopening date can be determined.”
This decision stems from a fatal incident in April where a tour guide at the Qing Xin Ling Leisure and Cultural Village was killed by falling rocks.
In response, the state government ordered the immediate closure of the attraction and launched an investigation.

The newly established committee, led by the State Lands and Mines director, is tasked with developing and implementing stricter safety measures to prevent similar tragedies.
Following a tragic incident at a limestone tourist attraction, the Perak government is taking a firm stance on safety.
Loh announced stricter safety protocols during a press conference. Tourist operators near limestone zones must demonstrate their adherence to these new guidelines before reopening their doors to the public.
“The safety of visitors is our top priority,” Loh emphasised.
“Operators will need to undergo a thorough review process to ensure they comply with the recommendations set forth by the Perak Cave and Limestone Area Development Special Committee.
Once their readiness is confirmed, we will determine a suitable date for reopening.”
