Anglers across Southeast Asia cast their lines for glory at the recent Langkawi Satun Fishing Thru Andaman 2024 tournament.

Held from May 17th to 19th, the event solidified its position as a premier competition for the region’s fishing enthusiasts.

A celebration of skill and sportsmanship

The Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) partnered with the Tourism & Sports Department of Satun Province to host this prestigious event.

The competition witnessed intense competition among 210 top anglers from Malaysia and Thailand.

The presence of Tunku Mahkota Kedah, Tunku Shazuddin Ariff Sultan Sallehuddin, and Che Puan Nur Julie Ariff added a touch of royalty to the occasion.

Participants battled it out for the biggest catches, with prized species like Giant Trevally, Grouper, Red Snapper, and Barracuda gracing their lines.

The scenic journey began in the picturesque locale of Satun, Thailand, culminating in a thrilling weigh-in ceremony at Langkawi, Malaysia.

Crowning the champions of Langkawi Satun Fishing

Team Pran Tah-Le from Thailand emerged victorious, claiming the top prize of MYR20,000 in the Heaviest Fish Team category.

Their remarkable catch weighed in at a staggering 48.2 kg! The team’s captain further solidified their dominance by securing the MYR1,500 prize for the best captain category.

Malaysia’s LADA Welfare and Sports Club secured a well-deserved second place with a 35.7 kg catch, earning them MYR5,000.

The Public Works Department team followed closely behind, bagging third place and MYR3,000 with a 33.5 kg catch.

The Langkawi Satun Fishing Thru Andaman served as more than just a fishing tournament. It fostered a spirit of unity and camaraderie between the Malaysian and Thai angling communities.

This event also exemplifies the potential for increased tourism collaboration between Langkawi and Thailand’s southwest provinces bordering the Andaman Sea.
