Continental has announced the expansion of its innovative ContiSeal technology, targeting a wider range of products and rim sizes to address the unique challenges faced by Malaysian drivers.
The primary aim is to enhance safety and transform how drivers handle tyre puncture situations on the road.
Advanced self-sealing technology
ContiSeal, first unveiled in 2003, has been refined over two decades to provide immediate sealing for 80% of all punctures and 99.9% of punctures up to 5mm in diameter.
This self-sealing technology uses a vulcanisation process that enhances the tyre’s durability and elasticity, reducing cavity noise by up to 3dB.
The sealant layer, applied inside the tyre’s tread area, ensures the tyre maintains its integrity and performance, even under rigorous conditions.
“By having a self-sealing tyre technology, road users can be more confident in every drive,” a Continental spokesperson said.
ContiSeal benefits for Malaysian drivers
The self-sealing capability of ContiSeal tyres provides an airtight seal, preventing air leakage even when the puncturing object, such as a nail, is dislodged.
This eliminates the immediate need for roadside tyre changes, allowing drivers to continue their journey without interruption.
The technology is unaffected by environmental factors and has a service life that exceeds the tyre itself, providing continuous protection throughout its lifespan.
Unlike run-flat tyres, ContiSeal tyres perform like standard tyres, offering comfort without the need for specific vehicle modifications.
They also maintain integrity and performance after a puncture, allowing unrestricted driving and potential repairs if necessary.
While initially more expensive, ContiSeal tyres are cost-effective in the long run by reducing the need for roadside assistance, towing, and frequent tyre replacements.
Continental also offers a standard manufacturing warranty, including a pro-rated reimbursement for sealing performance defects within the tread area.
Additionally, the Total Confidence Plan (TCP) provides a one-to-one tyre replacement for unexpected road damage within the first year, with claims managed through the Conti TCP app.
Continental recommends using a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to monitor any tyre pressure drop and regular checks by tyre specialists to ensure ongoing tyre integrity and longevity.
Despite the immediate fix provided by ContiSeal, follow-up maintenance is crucial to prevent moisture from entering the tyre through any puncture, potentially damaging its internal structure.
Drivers are advised to visit a dealer for thorough inspections to maintain safety and performance.
Continental plans to fully incorporate ContiSeal technology by July 2024 across popular tyre models, including the UltraContact UC7, PremiumContact C, and UltraContact UC6 SUV, in sizes ranging from 16” to 20”.
