Sunway Group has announced that Sunway Ipoh Mall, set to open in 2027, will be Perak’s largest mall.
With a development cost exceeding RM1 billion, this massive retail complex will feature over one million square feet of net lettable area, housing Perak’s first ice-skating rink and bowling alley.
Sunway Ipoh Mall: A new retail hub in Perak
Sunway Ipoh Mall, part of the expansive Sunway City Ipoh development, is designed to elevate the retail and entertainment landscape of the region.
Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, founder and chairman of Sunway Group, highlighted the strategic investment during the ground-breaking ceremony.
“Having invested RM2 billion in the development of Sunway City Ipoh, we are committing another RM4 billion over the next decade in our expansion plans.
This includes a world-class hospital, a new education hub, a brand-new hotel and a state-of-the-art convention centre,” said Cheah.
Spanning 18.88 acres, Sunway Ipoh Mall will feature four storeys, 350 retail lots, and 3,000 car park bays.
Expected to become a major attraction, the mall will also include an exhibition centre, a 36-lane bowling centre, a multipurpose sports centre, a gourmet garden, and a 10-hall cinema with a seating capacity of approximately 1,500.
Enhancing local and tourist appeal of Ipoh
Strategically located along the North-South Expressway, Sunway Ipoh Mall aims to attract both locals and international tourists.
Cheah noted, “Sunway Ipoh Mall is poised to become the largest mall in Ipoh.
This mall is strategically located along the North-South Expressway, so those passing through the highway can drop by and do their shopping here.
It might be better than going to the R&Rs (rest and refreshment). Besides locals, Ipoh also has seen a surge in international tourists in recent years.
I believe if we do it right, we will be able to get more tourists to visit the city.”
The ground-breaking ceremony was officiated by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
The event was also attended by notable figures including Perak State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, state Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee, Hulu Kinta assemblyman Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad.
Ipoh mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, and Perak State Development Corporation (PNKPk) chief executive Datuk Redza Rafiq Abdul Razak was also in attendance for the ground breaking event.
Sunway Ipoh Mall represents a significant milestone in the development of Sunway City Ipoh and promises to transform the retail and entertainment landscape in Perak.
With its diverse offerings and strategic location, the mall is set to become a premier destination for both locals and tourists.
