Sunway Medical Centre (SMC), located in Sunway City, has recently achieved the globally recognised Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation, The Gold Seal of Approval under its Hospital Program.
This prestigious recognition places SMC as the first hospital in Malaysia to hold three major hospital-wide accreditations, including the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH).
This milestone underscores SMC’s unwavering commitment to delivering world-class healthcare services, emphasising patient safety and care excellence.
A benchmark for healthcare quality
Sunway Medical Centre’s latest accolade reflects its dedication to upholding the highest standards in healthcare.
As Malaysia’s largest quaternary private hospital, SMC underwent JCI’s rigorous assessment process, which scrutinised every aspect of its operations.
This comprehensive evaluation included a detailed review of patient care procedures, medication management, infection control, patient rights, staff qualifications, and facility safety.
“The JCI accreditation, alongside our pioneering ACHS accreditation since 2014, proves our commitment to the highest standards in patient safety,” said Dato’ Lau Beng Long, President of Sunway Healthcare Group.
“With nearly a million local and international patients walking through our hospital doors every year, this recognition gives our patients and their families peace of mind, knowing they are in good hands.
This acknowledgement is particularly meaningful as SMC approaches its 25th anniversary.”
JCI, established in 1997 as a division of the Joint Commission through its non-profit affiliate, Joint Commission Resources (JCR), is dedicated to promoting healthcare excellence and advocating for the highest quality of patient care worldwide.
The JCI Accreditation is a globally recognised symbol of quality, reflecting an organisation’s adherence to rigorous performance standards.
Expanding excellence: The future of Sunway Medical Centre
Since its establishment in 1999, Sunway Medical Centre has grown into a powerhouse of medical innovation and patient care.
The hospital boasts 28 Centres of Excellence and more than 60 medical specialities, providing comprehensive healthcare services to a diverse patient base.
