The MYJalan campaign, spearheaded by the Ministry of Works (KKR), marks its first anniversary today, celebrating significant strides in road infrastructure maintenance and safety across Malaysia.

Since its inception, MYJalan has focused on repairing and maintaining roads, ensuring safety, and providing comfort to the public, all while aligning with the aspirations of the MADANI Government.

Launched by the Ministry of Works (KKR) a year ago, MYJalan was designed to address the critical issue of road safety and infrastructure maintenance.

Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that even minor road damage could lead to severe accidents and potential loss of life.

“Efforts to repair and maintain road infrastructure and street furniture must be done promptly because it is a matter that not only involves cost but more importantly, human lives,” Nanta stated.

The campaign, developed with support from key agencies like the Public Works Department (JKR), the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), aims to instil accountability, educate road users, and enhance monitoring and maintenance systems.

In August 2023, MYJalan was brought to the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (LTB), a route notorious for frequent reports of road damage.

Since then, the campaign has been mobilised nationwide, further strengthened by the introduction of the MYJalan complaint application.

This app, operating under the ‘No Wrong Door Policy,’ ensures that all complaints related to road infrastructure are addressed promptly.

Significant achievements and future plans

Over the past year, MYJalan has made notable progress, receiving an allocation of RM75.676 million for upgrading the LTB Gerik-Jeli route.

This success has led to an increased budget allocation for KKR in 2024, amounting to RM9.511 billion, a 12.7% increase from the previous year.

Of this total, RM1.907 billion is dedicated to the maintenance of federal roads across the country.

“Although the amount is still not enough to maintain the entire federal road network, which exceeds 18,000 kilometres, we are trying our best to make full use of this provision to maintain the road infrastructure,” Nanta explained.

Through MYJalan, an additional RM200,000 was allocated to each of the 115 district engineers for implementing minor repair works that require immediate attention.

This initiative empowers district engineers to address minor road damages that do not require substantial costs. Furthermore, RM113 million has been channelled this year to repair roads and collapsed slopes caused by floods.

The safety of motorcyclists has also been a priority, with MYJalan overseeing the construction of 119 motorcycle shelters along highways. To date, 101 of these shelters have been completed, offering much-needed protection during the rainy season.

The MYJalan application has also proven effective, receiving over 17,000 complaints, of which 30.18% were under KKR’s supervision.

Impressively, 4,772 of these complaints have already been resolved. Nanta emphasised the importance of continuous improvement, stating, “Going forward, the ministry has a more aggressive plan to ensure that the objectives of the implementation of MYJalan can be achieved.”
