Sophea Fertility Centre expands its reach with new centre in Bangi

Sophea Fertility Centre opens in Bangi, championing women-centric, Muslim-friendly fertility care with advanced technology and New Zealand collaboration.

Sophea Fertility Centre (Sophea), under the Sunfert International brand, has expanded its footprint in Malaysia with the opening of its second centre in Bangi, Selangor. This new addition marks a significant step in Sophea’s mission to provide inclusive, women-centric, and Muslim-friendly fertility care services.

The centre was officially launched in a ceremony attended by a high-level delegation from New Zealand, including Honourable Melissa Lee, Minister for Economic Development and Ethnic Communities, and Honourable Nicola Grigg, Minister of State for Trade and Women. Their presence underscored the international significance of Sophea’s innovative approach to fertility care.

The launch of this centre is a testament to Sophea’s commitment to offering advanced fertility treatments within a framework that respects and supports patients’ cultural and religious values. Since its inception, Sophea has treated nearly 200 IVF patients, resulting in close to 100 pregnancies. This impressive track record is a reflection of the high-quality care and cutting-edge technology that Sophea provides, made possible through its partnership with Fertility Associates, New Zealand’s leading fertility provider.

New Zealand delegation recognizes innovative healthcare

The visit by the New Zealand delegation to the Sophea Fertility Centre highlighted the global relevance of the Centre’s approach to fertility care. The ministers expressed keen interest in how Sophea’s model, which integrates expertise from Fertility Associates, could inspire similar initiatives in other countries.

“Since its opening, we have treated nearly 200 IVF patients, resulting in close to 100 pregnancies. My congratulations to the team on such a strong start. The partnership between Fertility Associates and Sunfert has allowed us to bring advanced fertility technologies to Malaysia, and we look forward to continuing to improve patient care,” said Alex Price, Chief Executive of Fertility Associates.

Honourable Melissa Lee praised Fertility Associates as an example of a New Zealand company successfully exporting cutting-edge technology to support health services abroad. “Fertility Associates is an example of an innovative New Zealand company that is successfully exporting its cutting-edge technology to support health services in Malaysia.” she added.

The partnership between the two entities began in 2021 when Fertility Associates expanded into Southeast Asia by acquiring a majority stake in Sunfert International. Supported by a consortium that included the New Zealand Super Fund, Pioneer Capital, and Comprador Holdings, this strategic move enabled the introduction of advanced fertility treatments to Malaysia. The success of this venture is evident in the achievements of Sophea, which continues to set new benchmarks in patient-centred fertility care.

A tour of state-of-the-art facilities

Following the official opening, the delegation participated in a dialogue session that explored how Fertility Associates has successfully adapted and localized its services in Malaysia through distinct brands and segments. The discussion was followed by a guided tour of the Sophea Bangi centre, led by Dr. Salleha Khalid, Lead Fertility Specialist. The tour showcased the centre’s state-of-the-art facilities, including cutting-edge laboratories, private consultation rooms, and advanced treatment suites.

Sophea offers a range of fertility treatments, including in-vitro fertilisation (IVF), genetic testing, and comprehensive fertility assessments, all delivered with a deep respect for Islamic values. “We aim to nurture a women-centric, inclusive and Muslim-friendly environment that prioritises comfort, high-quality service, and advanced fertility technologies for improved fertility outcomes.” Dr. Salleha Khalid emphasized.

In addition to serving Muslim couples, the centre also caters to non-Muslim couples who prefer a female clinical team and a private, respectful setting.
