The Klang River Cleanup Project, a collaborative corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, recently saw tremendous success in its efforts to restore the once-pristine river.

Organised by Putra Business School (PBS) alongside several key partners, the event underscored a commitment to environmental stewardship with the tagline “Unite to Clean, Flow to Green.”

His Highness the Crown Prince of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, who is also PBS’ Chancellor, expressed his full support and emphasised the significance of seeing the Klang River once again become a source of pride for the state of Selangor.

The cleanup project gathered a diverse group of volunteers, including PBS students, alumni, staff, and members of the Royal Selangor Yacht Club (RSYC).

Leading the efforts were Prof. Dr. Azmawani Abd Rahman, President and Chief Executive Officer of PBS, and RSYC CommodoreRamasamy Menon.

The volunteers were split into two teams—one focusing on cleaning trash from the waterway using boats, while the other tackled rubbish along the riverside.

His Highness Tengku Amir Shah was present to show his support, highlighting the importance of collective efforts to ensure a cleaner future for the Klang River.

He expressed hope that these efforts would raise public awareness and inspire more initiatives aimed at restoring the river.

The Klang River Cleanup Project is part of PBS’ larger strategic plan to promote environmental awareness and social responsibility.

According to Prof. Dr. Azmawani, this initiative represents the beginning of a larger movement to ensure cleaner, healthier rivers across Malaysia.

“This project will be the first of many, and we hope it inspires more organisations and individuals to take part in future cleanups.

With increased awareness, we believe more people will adopt responsible waste disposal practices, helping reduce pollution in our nation as a whole,” she stated.

The success of this project marks a crucial step forward in the broader conservation journey for Klang River.

It is hoped that through continued efforts like this, future generations will enjoy cleaner waterways, fostering both environmental and public health.

As part of PBS’ commitment to sustainable practices, the school will continue to spearhead initiatives that not only clean up pollution but also instil a sense of responsibility in the community.
