World Vision urges support for Lebanon as crisis escalates

World Vision is calling for urgent support to raise USD 5 million (around RM21 million) to assist vulnerable communities affected by the ongoing conflict in Lebanon.

Since mid-September 2024, the country has seen a sharp escalation in violence, leading to widespread devastation, particularly for children and families.

The humanitarian organisation’s efforts aim to bring lifesaving aid to the hardest-hit areas.

The violence has left over 2,000 dead, including at least 127 children, and nearly 9,400 injured.

More than 1 million people have been displaced, with many forced into temporary shelters that lack essential resources, such as hygiene supplies and protection measures.

“The situation is critical, and the fast-approaching winter makes it even more urgent,” World Vision emphasised.

World Vision has been actively providing assistance on the ground, offering food, hygiene kits, and protection services to those most in need.

The escalating conflict has put a strain on the organisation’s operations, particularly in the regions where over 12,000 children are affected.

Most child-related activities have paused, though vital humanitarian efforts continue.

Many schools in the region have been converted into makeshift shelters for over 155,600 people, half of whom are women and children.

The shelters, however, are severely under-resourced, lacking basic necessities like hygiene facilities and safe living conditions.

To address these pressing issues, World Vision is focusing on delivering immediate relief, such as fuel, food, and hygiene kits to displaced families.
