The TGR GT Cup Asia 2024 wrapped up with electrifying results, as racers from across the region battled for supremacy in one of Asia’s most anticipated e-Motorsports events.
With fierce competition from five nations, the event saw Malaysia’s own Taj Izrin Aiman claim the TGR GT Cup Asia title, becoming the Individual Champion and securing his place in the Global Finals in Amsterdam.
The excitement didn’t stop there, as Indonesia’s team claimed the coveted Country Championship title.
Intense battles at TGR GT Cup Asia
Held at the Connexion Conference and Event Centre in Kuala Lumpur, the TGR GT Cup Asia 2024 featured 15 of the region’s top drivers competing across three challenging races on Gran Turismo 7, using the PlayStation®5 (PS5®) and PlayStation®4 (PS4®) platforms.
The event was marked by world-class racing on circuits like Sardegna Windmills, Nürburgring GP, and Fuji International Speedway.
Aiman’s journey to victory was not without challenges. He had to outpace Indonesia’s Andika Rama, the 2023 Individual Champion, who finished second overall with 57 points.
Rama gave a strong performance throughout the event, with fellow Indonesian racer Moreno Pratama clinching third place with 48 points.
Danny Tan, CEO of Toyota Motor Asia, commented: “This competition is not just about winning, it’s about creating a community of talent and sportsmanship in the growing world of e-Motorsports.
Aiman’s victory is a testament to the incredible skill and determination of the region’s best racers.”
World-class tracks and unforgettable moments
The first race kicked off on the Sardegna Windmills circuit, where drivers navigated the unpredictable terrain in their GR Yaris cars.
Indonesia’s Rama led from the start, using his rally experience to take first place.
Aiman, however, remained focused on the larger goal, keeping close to his competitors and positioning himself for the next two races.
At the Nürburgring GP, the rain added an extra layer of difficulty, testing the drivers’ ability to adapt under pressure.
Pratama emerged victorious in this second race, while Aiman executed a clever pit-stop strategy that saw him maintain his championship hopes.
By the time the final race hit the Fuji International Speedway, Aiman was ready to clinch the title.
He delivered a flawless performance on the GR010 Hybrid ’21, claiming victory through precision and calculated tactics.
Aiman said of his win: “This is an emotional victory for me after last year’s challenges.
Competing alongside drivers like Rama and Pratama pushed me to my limits, and I’m thrilled to represent Asia in the Global Finals.”
With the Asia finals concluded, Aiman and Rama will join forces to represent the region in the TGR GT Cup Global Finals in Amsterdam this December.
Both drivers are determined to bring glory to Asia, building on their successful performances in Kuala Lumpur.
The success of the TGR GT Cup Asia 2024 not only highlights the immense talent emerging from the region but also sets the stage for even more exciting developments in e-Motorsports.
As global interest in virtual racing grows, Asia’s top drivers are ready to compete with the best in the world.
The TGR GT Cup Asia has become a cornerstone of the e-Motorsports scene, with Toyota Motor Asia playing a crucial role in its growth.
With support from partners like Razer, which provided racers with high-quality headsets for optimal communication, the event promises to continue pushing the boundaries of competitive gaming.
