ParkCity Medical Centre’s recent “Pink of Health” event brought the community together to promote breast cancer awareness, holistic care, and sustainability.

In Malaysia, where 50.5% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at late stages, the need for early detection is urgent.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Strength: Pink of Health”, highlighted the mental, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients and their families, offering a supportive and empowering environment for all who attended.

Focusing on the person behind the diagnosis

A key feature of the event was the panel discussion titled “I am Healthy – Why Do I Have Breast Cancer and How to Thrive With It?”.

Moderated by Dr Evelyn Ho, Consultant Clinical Radiologist at ParkCity Medical Centre, the panel explored common questions surrounding breast cancer.

The panel, which included survivors and experts, aimed to dispel myths, particularly the misconception that a healthy lifestyle alone can prevent cancer.

Dr Ho’s message was simple yet powerful: “We need to stop focusing solely on the cancer and instead focus on the person with breast cancer.”

This perspective resonated with many, emphasising that a diagnosis is not an end, but rather the start of a new chapter that can be filled with strength and community support.

Patient stories and sustainability take centre stage

The event showcased inspiring stories of survivors, like renowned dancer Datin Marion D’Cruz, who performed excerpts from her work ItSelf TerJadi.

Having been diagnosed in 2019, Datin Marion shared a poignant message: “All we have is NOW.” Siew Mei Quin, diagnosed at 35, also shared her journey of moving from alternative treatments to medical care, thriving more than 20 years after her diagnosis.

ParkCity Medical Centre also emphasised sustainability through its partnership with Neubodi, launching a bra recycling programme.

This initiative aims to reduce waste while supporting underprivileged women.

Chief Executive Officer Datin Dr Savitha Dharan shared the hospital’s mission: “We believe every individual’s journey through breast cancer is unique and deserves utmost care and support.

Our event reflects this commitment by inspiring and empowering those affected, while also creating a lasting impact through initiatives like our bra recycling programme with Neubodi.”

Savitha reiterated, “Small actions can create big impacts, both for breast cancer patients and the environment.”

ParkCity Medical Centre’s “Pink of Health” was more than just an event—it was a call to action.

The hospital encouraged attendees to take charge of their health, get screened early, and support initiatives like the bra recycling programme, which runs until 31 October. A

s Dr Ho summed up, “Together, we can support every individual’s journey and help them thrive.”
