In a move to ease travel expenses for the Deepavali holiday, the Malaysian government has announced a free toll period for Class 1 private vehicles from 12:01 a.m. on October 29 to 11:59 p.m. on October 30.

This initiative, costing the government an estimated RM38 million, aims to provide financial relief for Malaysians celebrating Deepavali and promote smooth travel across the nation’s highways.

Under this toll exemption, all Class 1 private vehicles will enjoy free tolls on highways nationwide.

This includes all toll plazas, except for two locations: the Sultan Iskandar Building on the North-South Expressway and Tanjung Kupang on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link.

“The toll-free period aligns with the MADANI principles of compassion and well-being, supporting Malaysia’s diverse communities as they celebrate,” said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

“This initiative not only reduces financial stress for travellers but fosters a harmonious celebration across the nation.”

The government will compensate toll concessionaires to cover the cost of this exemption, which underscores its commitment to ensuring that holiday travel remains accessible and affordable.
