Sapura and Mili Tech drive Malaysia’s xEV future

Sapura and Mili Tech’s joint venture, SIB Mili Sdn Bhd, boosts Malaysia’s xEV ecosystem with services in maintenance, battery recycling, and talent upskilling.

Sapura Industrial Berhad (SIB), through its subsidiary SIB Ventures Sdn Bhd, has signed a joint venture agreement with Mili Tech Sdn Bhd to advance Malaysia’s electrified vehicle (xEV) ecosystem.

The joint entity, SIB Mili Sdn Bhd, is set to focus on after-sales services, battery recycling, and local talent upskilling, supporting Malaysia’s sustainability goals and the government’s target of 15% electric vehicle adoption by 2030.

Pioneering xEV services in Malaysia

The formation of SIB Mili Sdn Bhd aligns with Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (2021-2030) and the National Automotive Policy (NAP 2020), which both aim to position Malaysia as a regional hub for next-generation vehicles.

By establishing three flagship service centres in Kajang, the new venture will serve as a central player in electrified vehicle services and contribute to a circular economy.

SIB Mili’s President of Industrial Business, Fazal Othman Mohd Ghazali, highlighted the environmental and economic impact of the venture: “This joint venture strengthens our commitment to innovation and sustainability while building a robust ecosystem for xEVs in Malaysia.

Our focus on battery recycling and talent development is key to ensuring long-term success in the electrification journey.”

Building a sustainable xEV ecosystem

SIB Mili Sdn Bhd’s services will include after-sales maintenance for xEVs, refurbishment and recycling of xEV batteries, and training programs to equip local talent with xEV expertise.

By offering comprehensive lifecycle services, SIB Mili aims to create a sustainable framework for Malaysia’s growing electric vehicle sector.

Mohd Farid bin Abd Manaf, CEO and founder of Mili Tech, expressed enthusiasm for the collaborative venture, noting its importance in Malaysia’s journey toward green mobility: “This joint venture comes at a critical juncture as the country pushes for greater adoption of green technologies.

Our collaboration will enhance the xEV landscape by providing innovative services while supporting Malaysia’s broader sustainability goals.”

Malaysia’s initiatives, such as tax incentives for electric vehicle ownership and subsidies for EV infrastructure, underscore the government’s dedication to sustainable mobility.

SIB Mili Sdn Bhd will play a vital role in achieving these objectives by offering solutions that foster resource efficiency and environmental stewardship.

As SIB Mili Sdn Bhd begins operations, the company will help Malaysia move closer to becoming a leader in the electrified vehicle market, setting a sustainable example for the ASEAN region.
