Grab partners celebrate CNY by supporting communities in need

Grab Malaysia’s #GrabBersamaMalaysia initiative spread festive joy to over 300 individuals through charity visits and gift-giving this Chinese New Year.

In the spirit of Chinese New Year, Grab Malaysia continued its annual #GrabBersamaMalaysia initiative, spreading festive warmth to communities in need. This year’s effort saw Grab driver- and delivery-partners playing a pivotal role in bringing joy to over 300 individuals across charity homes, nursing care centres, and organisations supporting persons with disabilities (OKU) in multiple locations, including Alor Setar, Ipoh, Johor Bahru, Kuantan, and Penang.

Spreading Joy Through Bai Nian Visits

A key highlight of the initiative was the ‘bai nian’ (festive visits) by Grab and its driver-partners to various care homes, where they engaged with residents and distributed festive gifts. Among the homes visited were Pertubuhan Kebajikan Shan De Johor Bahru, Rumah Orang Tua Uzur Pulau Pinang, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Berjasa Kinta in Ipoh, Sayang Sayang Nursing Care Center in Alor Setar, and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU) Seremban.

More than 100 Grab driver- and delivery-partners participated in the initiative, handing out ‘bai nian li wu’ (festive gifts) containing daily essentials to residents. Their presence not only provided much-needed support but also brightened the celebrations for those who might otherwise feel forgotten during the festive season.

“As a Grab driver, I meet so many people every day—some just need a ride to get from point A to point B, while others might need a little extra help along the way. I would do what I can to make their journey easier. This initiative was an extension of that same desire to help, where I could extend my hand in kindness and witness the joy it brings. It is initiatives like these that make me proud to be part of the Grab community,” shared Khairul Azman Bin Mohamad Fauzee, a Grab driver-partner from Sungai Petani since 2017.

Strengthening Camaraderie with Mandarin Orange Sharing

Beyond the charity visits, Grab’s driver- and delivery-partners took to the streets of major cities to share well wishes and distribute ‘gan’ (mandarin oranges) to over 600 of their peers at common gathering spots. This simple yet heartfelt exchange reinforced the spirit of unity and camaraderie among Grab’s partner community, reflecting the ‘tuan yuan’ (reunion) values deeply rooted in the festive celebration.

For many driver-partners, the event was not just about giving but also about fostering a sense of belonging within their own community. The shared joy of exchanging oranges and festive greetings further underscored the strong bonds that have formed among Grab’s workforce.

Grab Malaysia’s Commitment to Inclusive Festivities

Adelene Foo, Managing Director of Grab Malaysia, highlighted the importance of inclusivity during the festive season.

“The festive season is a time for togetherness. It is heartwarming to see how initiatives like this one help ensure that no community is left behind, especially those who are often overlooked. Seeing the smiles and excitement of the people we met was a powerful reminder of how small gestures can make a big difference. I am incredibly grateful to our driver- and delivery-partners for their dedication in helping make this initiative a reality,” she said.

She also expressed appreciation for the volunteers and social workers who dedicate themselves to supporting vulnerable communities. “I would also like to acknowledge the incredible work of the volunteers and social workers at these homes—the everyday heroes who devote themselves to uplifting communities and making a meaningful impact in the lives of those they serve,” she added.

The #GrabBersamaMalaysia initiative has become a cherished annual tradition, demonstrating Grab’s ongoing commitment to giving back to society. Through efforts like these, the company continues to foster a culture of kindness and generosity, ensuring that festive celebrations are shared with all, regardless of their circumstances.
