On October 27, 2008, the Health Ministry disclosed that the structure of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s main tower block, podium, forensic block and the boiler room is unsafe and had to demolished.
This decision came following the evaluation done by Kumpulan Ikram and the JKR Sabah. The Ikram report also showed that the blocks could not last for long and were too uneconomical to repair.
Since then no concrete decision has came out – to demolish and rebuild the building or to relocate the hospital altogether.
Citizen Journalist, Amde Sidik recently met Melanie Chia the Luyang state assembly woman to understand what has been happening with the hospital.
