Upgrading works on the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium for the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup to be held from May 24 to June 3 will be completed by early May, said Perak Hockey Association president Abdul Rahim Md Arif.

He said upon completion, the stadium would be the first in Asia to be furnished with astroturf that met International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) specifications.

“The same synthetic carpeting will be used for the Olympic Games in London this year, so we plan to bring the national team here for training so they get accustomed and improve their game,” he told reporters yesterday.
