Online revival of the Christmas spirit

Online revival of the Christmas spirit

The online community sparked a revival of the Christmas spirit as they celebrated the auspicious day by expressing and sharing the commemoration of the birth of Jesus on social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Unlike the good old days when people wrote their heart-felt messages on greeting cards, most youth today greeted their friends through messages online. Many expressed their joy and gratitude for Christmas by posting their friends and family celebratory photos. Interesting and well-meaning posts regarding Christmas were ‘liked’ and ‘shared’ with their Facebook friends.

An interesting element in this year’s Christmas season is how young people were posting about the original meaning of Christmas on their Facebook walls. While this move brings a more religious connotation to the festival, it shows a concerned young generation who is looking forward to Christmas not merely because of the gifts but also because of the spirit of the festival itself.

Twitter fans are not giving up their tweets either in this festive season. Words related to Christmas tops the worldwide trend and in Malaysia, regardless of their beliefs, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Hinduis and others welcomed the festival by tweeting each other.
