Sabah, for the first time, announced the state’s Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) results outside the state capital, choosing a rural school in Semporna instead.
Sabah Education director Datuk Dr Muhiddin Yusin said the State Education Department selected Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kabogan, Semporna to reveal the results to motivate rural schools to continue working hard.
“With this ceremony at SK Kabogan, which fared quite well in Semporna, I am sure that it will be memorable for the students. Usually the top scorers we invite are from Kota Kinabalu.
“So, once in a while we should hold the announcement ceremony outside Kota Kinabalu so that top scorers in rural areas will have the chance to attend such events,” he told reporters.
Muhiddin when making the announcement revealed that 1,018 candidates scored all As and from this figure, 859 candidates were from national schools (SK), while 159 others were from Chinese national-type schools (SJKC).
In Sarawak, 88 schools, comprising 79 SK and nine SJKC, registered 100 per cent passes, said its Education director Abdillah Adam.
A total of 1,835 out of 43,849 candidates obtained all As, of whom 1,319 were from SK and 516 from SJKC.
In NEGERI SEMBILAN, Education director Abdul Halim Abdul Razak said the state registered a 0.8 per cent drop in the number of students scoring all As,
from 12.4 per cent last year to 11.6 per cent this year.
The achievement among urban candidates increased by 0.2 per cent while that of rural candidates dropped by 1.3 per cent.
In the FEDERAL TERRITORY, 2,690 out of 24,454 candidates scored all As but this was a slight drop from 11.32 per cent in 2010 to 11.23 per cent this year.
Its Education director Datuk Khairil Awang said the UPSR average grade was also lower this year, with 2.17 compared to 2.16 last year.
In PERLIS, the number of UPSR passes increased by 1.59 per cent this year involving 2,833 candidates compared to 2,677 in 2010.
Only 388 out of 4,540 candidates received all As, with two rural schools registering over 90 per cent overall achievement, namely SK Titi Tok Bandar (95.24 per cent) and SK Padang Keria (91.18 per cent).
In SELANGOR, 67,494 of the 86,092 candidates passed the UPSR this year, of whom 9,004 scored either 5As or 7As.
In TERENGGANU, the overall UPSR achievement rose to 15.6 per cent compared to 15.4 per cent last year, with 3,548 of the 22,801 candidates scoring all As.
In PENANG, SK Bertam Indah was selected as the best school when 90 of its 211 students scored 5As, said Education director Ahmad Tarmizi Kamaruddin.
He said 2,652 out of 24,874 candidates in the state scored all As.
In PAHANG, State Education director Yahya Zainal Abidin said the UPSR candidates maintained a state average grade of 2.2.
“A total of 2,967 obtained 5As compared to 3,359 last year,” he said, adding that four Orang Asli candidates scored 5As out of 727 candidates in Pahang.
In MELAKA, five schools recorded 100 per cent passes with minimum of C in the subjects. The schools are SK Convent Infant Jesus 2, SK Pegoh, SK Berisu, SKJ Cina Kemendor and SKJ Tamil Ladang Serkam.
State Education director Mohamad Yusoff Osman said, however, the number of scorers of all As dropped slightly by 0.4 per cent, from 10.4 per cent in 2010to 10 per cent this year.
In JOHOR, 5,753 of the 58,923 candidates obtained As for all subjects, but this was 0.85 per cent lower than last year which registered 10.61 per cent compared to 9.76 per cent this year.
SK Bandar Uda 2 has the biggest number of top scorers at 83, followed by SK Kota Masai in Pasir Gudang (82 students) and SKJ Cina Kuo Kuang 2, Skudai (79 students).
In KELANTAN, State Education director Hussain Awang said Kelantan showed progress as the state’s average grade was the best in eight years, with 2.09 this year compared to 2.22 last year.
He said the number of top scorers also rose by 0.95 per cent, with 5,282 such candidates this year compared to 5,128 in 2010.
