A total of 6,858 parents missed out on a free RM100 account from Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (Tawas, or Selangor Child Heritage Fund), while 43,973 applicants were successful, of which 3,183 were approved with uncompleted documents. The figures are as at October this year.
The unsuccessful applicants had applied only one year after their child was born, or their child was born before Jan 1, 2008.
Exco for welfare and women affairs Rodziah Ismail (PKR-Batu Tiga) told the Selangor State Assembly that 3,361 parents applied a year after the child was born; 1,087 did not fulfil one of Tawas’ condition; 411 children were born before Jan 1, 2008 (and thus did not qualify); while 1999 did not submit relevant documents six months after online registration.
Successful applicants will receive RM100 credit upon a free account registration and their child will be insured until 18 years old.
The RM100 credit will be accumulated to RM1,500 when the child turns 18, as dividends through state investments.
The Selangor government has allocated RM2.756 million for the fund thus far.
Meanwhile, Edward Lee (DAP-Bukit Gasing) asked about the job scope of consultants hired by the state for its Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor (people-oriented economy) programme.
Rodziah said consultants were tasked with determining Tawas’ concept, objective, modus operandi, registration system, planning, survey and implementation.
The two consultants were hired for five months for a total payment of RM58,000.
Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Selangor Child Heritage Foundation), the mother body of Tawas, now comprises two contractual management executives, nine executives and 12 assistant staff members.
