The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) is sticking to its decision not to issue accreditation to any politician to give religious talk or lecture at any surau or mosque in the state.
Jais director Marzuki Hussin said today that the department would not compromise even though some people wanted the decision to be reviewed.
Marzuki said that Selangor PAS commissioner Dr Abdul Rani Osman and Shah Alam member of Parliament Khalid Samad met him yesterday to discuss credentials for giving religious lectures.
“They (the politicians) may apply for accreditation, but the credentials committee will decide in accordance with existing regulations,” he told reporters at an Aidilfitri open house at the Sultan Idris Shah building in Shah Alam.
He said the regulation disallowing politicians to give religious lectures at places of worship complied with a directive from Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Marzuki said anyone violating the regulation could be charged under Section 14 of the Jais Administration Enactment which carries a jail term of up to two years and a maximum fine of RM3,000.
