1Malaysia retail chain will be expanded, says Najib

The government will expand the network of the 1Malaysia retail outlets (Kedai 1Malaysia) to enable more people to purchase necessities at lower prices, said Prime Minister Najib Razak.

The government will expand the network of the 1Malaysia retail outlets (Kedai 1Malaysia) to enable more people to purchase necessities at lower prices, said Prime Minister Najib Razak.

He said the initiative was a positive intervention by the government to help the people to cope with the increasing cost of living.

Taking garlic as an example, the prime minister said the item was sold at  RM3.38 per kilogramme at Kedai 1Malaysia as compared to RM6 per kilo at normal retail outlets while for a 10kg packet of “super tempatan” rice, it was  RM21.99 and RM25.80 respectively.

“I find the Kedai 1Malaysia retail concept to be immensely beneficial to the people as the prices are far lower than at normal retail outlets.

“I believe the people will appreciate the opening of more Kedai 1Malaysia,” he said after launching the second Kedai 1Malaysia in the Klang Valley in Bandar Tun Razak today.

Also present were Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin.

Najib said the third Kedai 1Malaysia in located in Pantai Dalam in the city was expected to come onstream next week. The first was opened in Kelana Jaya in June.

Najib said the government also planned to retail items sold at Kedai 1Malaysia at retail outlets participating in the TUKAR (Transformasi Kedai Runcit) programme.

He said the government targeted having 500 TUKAR outlets by year end. So far there are 200 such outlets throughout the country.
