The Jalan Tasek area in Ipoh, Perak recorded unhealthy air with a reading of 136 on the Air Pollutant Index (API) up to 11am today.

The Jalan Tasek area in Ipoh, Perak recorded unhealthy air with a reading of 136 on the Air Pollutant Index (API) up to 11am today.

Thirty-one areas reported moderate air quality as at 11am, compared to 33 as at 7am.

SK Jalan Pegoh in Ipoh, Seri Manjung and Kuala Selangor recorded API readings of 99, 94 and 84 respectively, Balok Baru in Kuantan (74), Port Klang (72) and Petaling Jaya (67).

The data (for readings up to 11am) was issued by the Department of Environment on its website.

Penang which was enveloped by haze last week, believed to be caused by open burning in Sumatra, Indonesia, recording API readings of 59 in Seberang Jaya 2 and 53 di Perai, while Universiti Sains Malaysia recorded a reading of 44, denoting the air quality as good.

Seventeen other areas recorded good air quality, namely Sri Aman and Langkawi (27), Alor Setar (30), Larkin Lama (31), Tawau (32), Sandakan (35), Muar (37), Malacca city and Kangar (38), Pasir Gudang (39), ILP Miri (40), Keningau and Kota Kinabalu (41), Kota Tinggi (43), Limbang (44), Miri (46) and Kapit (50).

The API readings are categorised as good (0-50), moderate (51-100), unhealthy (101-200), 201-300 (very unhealthy) and hazardous (300 and above).
