The Cooperative College (Incorporation) (Amendment) Bill 2010 was among three bills passed by the Dewan Negara yesterday.
The bill is for the formation of the Malaysian Cooperative College in place of the Cooperative College of Malaysia (MKM) to boost the nation’s cooperative sector.
Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism deputy minister Tan Lian Hoe, when wrapping up debate on the bill, said through this amendment the MKM would be more competitive in terms of human capital development and strengthen the cooperative movement in the country.
“Among the functions of the college is to conduct diploma-level courses in cooperative studies and other programmes which can improve the sector’s performance,” she said.
Two other bills passed were the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (Incorporation) (Amendment) Bill 2011 and the Promotion of Investments (Amendment) Bill 2011 tabled by International Trade and Industry deputy minister Mukhriz Mahathir.
The bills were passed without any amendments. The sitting resumes today.
