The Crime Awareness Day 2013 was held successfully on December 7, 2013 with the aim of strengthening the relationship between the police and members of the public.
The day was launched by YDH Johor Police Chief, Dato’ Mohd. Mokhtar Bin Hj. Mohd. Shariff at the compound of Tesco Tebrau City. Also present at the event were Mr. Richard Leonard, the Security Manager Tesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Heads of Departments, District police chiefs, police officers, members of the Johor police Contingent and the general public.
A variety of programmes were line up to provide knowledge and increase public awareness about crime such as crime prevention exhibitions, police patrol parade, police dog show and criminals’ arrest techniques performances. Families who attended were also entertained with colouring contests and activities from the Tour De Johor Cycling Club.
The police also took the opportunity to alert the public to beware of the “Scratch Scam” and to report to the police immediately if they encounter such a scam. In addition, the police had a live sketch performance urging women to be aware of robbers.
In his speech, Dato’ Mohd Mokhtar said that the crime rate in Johor had decreased in the last five years and urged the investors not to believe baseless rumours while adding that Johor is still a good place for investment.
The Johor police chief told CJMY that he hoped the Crime Awareness Day will help to strengthen the relationship between the police and members of the public and at the same time provide knowledge and increase public awareness about crime.
He also urged the public to work hand in hand with the police. He added that the ‘police belongs to the public, the public owns the police’ and said that the police are working around the clock to ensure that crime is brought down to the minimum.
