The popularity of Korean pop (K-pop) culture continues to draw interest as proven with the recently concluded K-Pop Star Lookalike contest organised by Dubu Dubu which received enthusiastic response from K-pop craze Malaysians.
Dubu Dubu which means tofu in Korean, is a fast-growing chain of restaurants in the country that serves authentic Korean dishes.
The first, second and third prize winners received their prizes from CR Dubu Malaysia executive director Wong Kah Yong in a simple ceremony.
“Dubu Dubu has become a renowned restaurant among many Malaysians who appreciate tasty Korean dishes. All the winners are regular patrons of the restaurant and they are testament to this.
“At Dubu Dubu, we ensure that each and every dish brings out the true essence of Korean flavour. Our customers appreciate this and are constantly returning for more appetizing and authentic Korean food,” said Wong.
According to Wong, the contest was meant to be simple, fun but with a small twist. Participants who joined the contest had to snap and upload photos of themselves on Facebook looking as close as possible to their favourite K-Pop stars. They also had to submit photos of the K-Pop star who inspired their look.
“Dubu Dubu has many customers who not only enjoy Korean food but also Korean culture. And in this day and age, it is common to have photos taken. The challenge was to mirror your favourite K-Pop stars to win,” said Wong.
The first prize winner was 22-year old Muhamad Syazwan Noh, a regular patron at his favourite Dubu Dubu, who submitted his best lookalike photo of popular Korean artiste T.O.P. (real name Choi SeungHyun) from Korean boy band Big Bang.
“I entered the contest because it was a fun opportunity for me to dress up and pose as my favourite K-Pop star.
“I am a big fan of cosplay and the opportunity to pose as T.O.P. was too good to pass up. To make my picture look as authentic as possible, I spent several days scouting for the right clothing and making the necessary accessories.
“I had great fun doing it and clinching the first prize is definitely a bonus!” said Syazwan, who received RM1,500 cash and Dubu Dubu cash vouchers worth RM500.
