A member of the Terengganu Regency Council expressed concern today over the state of unity among Muslims, describing it as becoming fragile.
Tengku Sri Laksamana Raja Tengku Sulaiman Sultan Mahmud said the culture of accusing and bringing down one another as well as individualistic attitude had become more apparent among Muslims to date.
“We are being looked down because we are disunited, and egoistical attitude is causing the downfall of governments led by Muslims in Egypt, Libya and Iraq; and other Muslim countries are on the verge of collapse,” he said when closing the state-level Quran Reciters’ Assembly last night.
Tengku Sulaiman urged Muslims to embark on attitudinal change and unite. “Let’s strive to unite and pray that these things will not happen to our beloved Malaysia,” he said.
At the assembly, Ahmad Tarmizi Ali from Dungun emerged the qari champion while Nur Hidayah Abdul Rahman from Setiu defended her qariah title which she won last year.
They won RM7,000, a haj package and a trophy each and will represent Terengganu at the national-level assembly in Sarawak, starting June 13.
