A travel agency here filed a legal suit against the Johor Road Transport Department yesterday afternoon at the Sessions Court here for wrongful seizure and detention on one of the company’s buses on February 16, 2008.

A travel agency here filed a legal suit against the Johor Road Transport Department yesterday afternoon at the Sessions Court here for wrongful seizure and detention on one of the company’s buses on February 16, 2008.

Syarikat Pelancongan Expression Travel Sdn Bhd is suing the Johor Road Transport Department (RTD) prosecuting officer, Zainal Abidin Hassan, and two other officers for damages. In the statement of claim, Zainal is named as the first defendant, and RTD officer, Mohd Azizie Busu and assistant enforcement officer, Mohd Zin Mohd Ahad, as the second and third defendants respectively.

It is stated that the bus was impounded by the Johor RTD for 61 days without valid reason. During this period, the company suffered losses amounting to RM20,000 to RM30,000 as a result of ticket cancellations.

The company is seeking judgement for loss of incomes for 61 days, defamation, general damages, eight percent interest on the total sum to be determined by the court, legal costs and other relief costs which the court deems fit.
