Student who saved parents from fire receives bravery award

24-year-old graduate was conferred the inaugural “TUAH” award for his bravery in saving his parents during a at his home.

Amirul received the award, a cheque worth RM2,000, a certificate and a medal during the 15th convocation ceremony of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).

Amirul Zarith Zamri was with his stroke-ridden father Zamri Ipin, 62, and mother Rahimah Idris, 60, when fire broke out at his home at Batu 13, Maran in Pahang on Aug 21.

Amirul who recently completed his Technology Management and Technopreneur studies at UTeM, was in the bathroom when fire broke out. He heard his mother screaming helplessly and rushed from the bathroom draped only with a towel, to save his parents.

The whole house was razed in minutes as he and his family lost all their belongings.

Despite the tragedy a determined Amirul complete his studies and achieved a 3.23 CPGA. He was among 2,993 graduates who received their scrolls during the event
