The number of flood evacuees in Johor and Melaka has dropped to 24,712 this morning as floodwaters continue to recede in the affected areas of the two states.

Johor has 24,523 evacuees housed at 91 relief centres in the districts of Muar, Batu Pahat, Segamat and Ledang, according to the state government portal, www.johordt.gov.my.

Muar has the highest number of evacuees, at 9,554, followed by Batu Pahat (8,174), Ledang (5,910) and Segamat (885), it said.

The floods have claimed five lives in Johor.

In MELAKA, the number of evacuees has dropped to 189.

A spokesman of the state flood operations room said they were being accommodated at two relief centres, at Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Penghulu and Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Mendapat.

He said all the evacuees were from the Sungai Rambau state constituency.
